heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!

So I'm setting up Nix-the-sexiest-laptop-ever and I can't for the life of me remember everything I need to do. And by do, I mean download.

So, dear flist, what do I need to put on my stupidly large harddrive to make my life run extra smoothly? Do you have a favorite media player? Favorite free antivirus/adware/spyware preventors? What Firefox add-ons am I bereft without (SO excited to have TwitterFox back, omg)? Anyone have a favorite converter? Reminders like "Hey, loser, don't forget WinRar and last.fm, you will totally miss them when you remember them. Oh! And go put delicious in your Firefox!"?

Talk to me! Help Nix be the very best he can be.

(Oh, god, I'm so retardedly over invested in that machine.)

I feel like I've been away forever...

* I feel like I've been away forever, my computer's been acting up and so I haven't read my flist since Tuesdayish, I think. Maybe Monday.

* Anyway, I've read a few BBBs and now I'm trying to decide whether to gorge myself on the rest or savor them over a long while, as I am always whining about not having new stuff to read.

* Not much is new with me, I'm involved in kind of a cool project at work that I'm alternately super stoked about and kind of exhausted by. Today I got a freezer! And a cupboard! Earlier this week I (mostly) got $900 worth of supplies! But, also exhausted.

* Baaack to point number one. I need some computer help. I have a 2005 desktop e-machine PC. It's using about 43% of it's hardrive, not sure about RAM, and was running super slow/freezing this week.

I have an anti-virus thing (Avast, but if there's something free and better, I'm totally open to it), ran Anti-Malware (which came up empty), Spybot (which showed one problem), and Adaware (which found 24 non-critical problems). Fixed everything and it seemed to maybe, possibly help. I also moved a bunch of stuff from my desktop into my documents and started a new Firefox session (I had probably 40 tabs open) and now things seem to be working pretty darn well.

The question is: What was the problem? And how did I fix it? (Aaaand, do I need to start thinking about how to afford a new computer?)

But what does 30-degrees MEAN?

Dear online weather forecasting services,

I realize this is my problem, and possibly mine alone, but I DO NOT KNOW WHAT 30-degree WEATHER FEELS LIKE! Does that mean I need a coat? 'Cause I totally have a big fluffy green coat thing. It is probably overkill but I would rather be warm and look stupid than be the awesomest looking cold dead person. Should I be packing sweaters and turtlenecks with said coat? Or is 30 like a hoodie and a sweater and a long sleeved shirt? Or just a hoodie and a shirt? I don't own boots. I lost my hat at hockey game. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ANSWERS FOR ME WEATHER-SERVICE?!?!?!?!?!

I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA! I THINK 60-degrees IS COLD! It is almost 70 outside and I kind of want to turn the heater on. (On the other hand, hit me up with a little 93, maybe 105, THAT I CAN WORK WITH!)

Basically, my question is: But what does 30-degrees MEAN?

Sincerely,
Kelsey

PS - In case it is not obvious, I am starting to pack for my trip to New York City (and surrounding) on Thursday. And I don't know what 30 degrees means.

Things

I have two things to discuss with you, dear flist.

First, birthday planning and travel related matters.

I got frequent flier miles for Christmas \o/. They expire mid-April. So. What I am thinking is trekking to New York in March-ish, crashing with my [info]wordsaremyfaith and pestering those of you who are willing to have me.

Then, for my birthday, I am thinking of coming back out for Bamboozle in May (and probably bookending that with a couple of days on either side).

The rest of my May and June are pretty booked up, so my thoughts were Vegas hangouts with West Coasters and whoever else wants to come out in July.

All of this pending tour dates of course (most especially the July bit, as we already know about Bamboozle and I doubt that anything new will happen in March.)

So thoughts/feelings/emotions on these plans are welcomed.

Secondly, I have so far not written one word for [info]getyourwordsout /o\. So if you all would be so kind as to give me prompts, I would be eternally grateful.

I know everyone on the planet is telling you this...

* I know everyone on the planet is telling you this, but, OMG, go see Milk. It is AMAZING and awesome, and so worth seeing. If nothing else will convince you, there's plenty of boykissing. And James Franco. And Emile Hersch. And Diego Luna.

* I'm FINALLY starting to get into the Christmas spirit. I've had my shopping pretty much done for awhile, but I just, I don't know, wasn't feeling it. Getting there now, though.

* I have no other news. Have mostly spent tonight making fun of bandboys on AIM. Because you always mock the ones you love.

* At 24 years old, you'd think I could apply eyeliner. I've been puttting on makeup (with varying degrees of skill and intricacy) for over a DECADE. Why is this so challenging?

Book rec request

So, guess what? My new job is a block away from the central library in town! \o/ (I did actually know this before today). But. Today I went to the library. And got two books. I figured, why go crazy, I'm here, it's here, I'll be back.

Also, I didn't really know what I wanted. This is where you, dearest flist, come in.

Please, please rec me books to read. Please?

ETA: Don't worry about what I'm usually into. I am pretty non-picky, honestly. Just rec me your favorites.

Sophisticated and classy or $2 romance novel, I will read anything! (One of the last things I read was a series of TERRIBLE mystery novels about a teddy bear collecting couple. For serious.

The last things I've read in order are:
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
The Mysterious Benedict Society
a bad cat mystery about people who write cat mysteries*
2 bad mysteries about teddy bear collectors*
a bad mystery about gardening*

In general I enjoy fantasy/scifi, historical fiction, mystery (preferably good), YA fiction, but really, really, I want to read what you want to offer.

* These were in the Free Books basket at the preschool. They are good for bus rides and reading myself to sleep. In my defense.
